The Events of September

As we look at the events of the month of September throughout history, it is once again a vast array of diversity.  We saw the worst terrorist attack on America (2001).  We saw war (1939).  We saw the ending of war (1945).  We saw the calendar change and lose 11 days (1752).  We saw a modern saint pass away (1997).  We saw a President shot and pass away 8 days later (1901).  We saw the birth of one of the most powerful women rulers the world has ever known (1533).  We saw the unveiling of the David statue (1504).  We saw gas rationing in the U.S. (1942).  We saw the underground discovery in Lascaux, France of a treasure trove of ancient art (1940).  We saw a church explode in Birmingham, Alabama killing 4 little children (1963).  We saw the adoption of the U.S. Constitution (1787).  We saw Billie Jean King beat Bobby Riggs in a tennis match (1973).  We saw the beginning of the Peace Corps (1961).  We saw the swearing in of the first female member of the U.S. Supreme Court (1981).  Come and hear of these and many more events that truly make the month of September historically special.
